I started riding seriously in August 2013 as a way to spend time with my son, Tom Perkins. Starting a new sport at 55 years old is a challenge. The body doesn't learn and improve like it does when one is younger.
It has taken just over 2 years to get to the point that I can consider racing. Sunday, January 10 was my first criterium. I raced in the Early Birds in Fremont with the Cat 5 Mens 45+. I was able to ride with the pack at speeds varying between 24 and 26 mph. That is a very big improvement for me, and a direct result of the guidance and training workouts that I have received from Jakroo Racing (aka. Michael and Beth Hernandez).
